Tori Peters, Author
About Tori
Tori Peters settled in Edmonds, Washington, where she has been involved with the writing community. Several of her travel essays have appeared in her local online newspaper, and three short memoir pieces have been published in The Narrative Project Anthologies. She continues to enjoy traveling—especially trekking. Her travel highlights include walking more than five hundred miles solo on the Camino de Santiago to the Atlantic Ocean; trekking to Choquequirao in the Peruvian Andes; trekking the Dingle Way in Ireland; and snorkeling with sea turtles off the island of Xiaoliuqiu while stranded for six months with her daughters who live in Taiwan, during the early months of the COVID-19.
My View From Here
In 1977, Tori Peters arrived in Bamako, Mali, with her husband, four young children, and a cat—beginning her life as a spouse of a U.S. diplomat. She didn’t speak French, didn’t know what was expected of her, and was unprepared for the poverty and heartbreak she’d encounter. Yet in the women of Mali, she found strength, resilience, and a deeper understanding of herself. Over the next two decades, Tori’s
journey carried her through postings in Rwanda, Tunisia, Taiwan, Canada, and India—years marked by cultural discovery, political unrest, and profound personal growth. When tragedy struck, she learned to stand on her own, ultimately walking the Camino de Santiago alone to honor her courage and the spirit of women across time. My View from Here is an inspiring memoir of adventure, loss, and transformation—one woman’s journey to fi nd purpose, independence, and belonging in every corner of the world.

Reviews
A great read for any woman who seeks a new path. Tori Peter’s heartfelt memoir takes the reader deep into the life of a Foreign Service wife and mother. The recognition there are no secure outcomes whatever path is chosen, enabled her to establish her own independence and satisfy the craving for adventure.

I was swept away by this memoir and loved how Peters creates a comfortable home abroad for her four young children while discovering herself beyond the titles of wife and mother.
~ Karen Middleton, educator, Peace Corps volunteer, US AID Worker, and World Bank spouse
As the family moves around the globe, the author realizes the universal truth that we are all just humans, experiencing the same highs and lows of life. A journey of self-exploration you won’t want to miss!
